Gillingham 0 AFC Wimbledon 0: Match highlights and reaction from Gills boss Neil Harris

Gillingham boss Neil Harris wasn’t sure how his team didn’t win Tuesday’s game against Wimbledon.

The Gills had numerous chances to score but couldn’t take them as the match at Priestfield finished goalless.

“I am not quite sure how it finishes 0-0,” said the manager. “It is the best we have played with the football since I have been here, it was edgy and scrappy at times and the real moments of quality came from us.

“Our build-up play was good and we were getting in good areas. We had enough chances to win two or three games of football.

“We played on the front-foot, we certainly had a reaction from Saturday (after losing 2-0 at home to Plymouth) which I asked from the players and promised the fans. We just couldn’t get the ball in the net could we? That has been the story of the season, not just in the last few games.”

Vadaine Oliver had a number of chances including the best of the night, a header which he put wide.

Harris said: “I expected him to score and he would have expected it himself, it was a great ball in, Ben Thompson put some cracking balls in and some of the individual performances were outstanding.

“Collectively as a team, it is the most sustained pressure we have had, we could build attack after attack and get into good areas, Ryan Jackson’s energy was excellent and his pace really helped the team.

“The scramble at the end probably summed it up, we probably could have scored three goals in the last 15 seconds, but it wasn’t to be and you have to praise them for throwing their bodies on the line but I can’t bemoan my players again, attitude, some quality we added to our performance that has been missing in the past, we were the better team by a mile.
