Gerwyn Price reveals medical issue as darts world champion contender admits to missed doctor appointments

Gerwyn Price has still got ear trouble at the Ally Pally.

The 2021 darts world champion is fighting against a medical issue ahead of his quarter-final with Chris Dobey. Price once famously donned ear defenders on the stage to block out abuse from the crowd. Now he’s actually getting some backing from the punters at the Palace, but that still isn’t enough to give his lobes a break.

Price explained: “It feels like I have been in a swimming pool of water. It’s frustrating. I pop my ears and it feels fine. It’s a nightmare, It's doing my head in. I’ve been taking antibiotics for a week and they are not working. It feels like I have been in a swimming pool of water. It’s frustrating. I pop my ears and it feels fine. Two minutes later, I have to do it again. It’s hard work. I have had this problem for the last six, seven, eight years, I am used to it now.

“I’m supposed to see an Ear, Throat and Nose specialist, but it’s too busy, isn’t it? I miss so many appointments with the ENT. You end up having a tournament here and there. I end up playing darts.”

Price faces Chris Dobey and could have to beat Michael Van Gerwen in the semis and Luke Littler in the Final to lift the trophy again. It’s a tough task after a difficult year, but he said: “I don’t know why I do so well here. It’s a tough place to come to. I haven’t played brilliantly. Maybe in patches. I know I have to play better if I want to win this tournament.

“If people keep slipping up against me, then great. I don’t care if I win the world championship with a 91 or 92 average. Just keep plugging away.

“Other players have performed yet. I think I’m fortunate to still be in. I think Lady Luck is on my side. It doesn’t matter how good or bad I play, I’m lifting the trophy
