Gervonta Davis knocks out Rolando Romero: Ringside footage is epic

Gervonta Davis retained his WBA lightweight title thanks to a sixth-round stoppage against Rolando Romero last night.

Having been backed up into the corner, Davis landed an unbelievable counter left hand strike which sent fellow American Romero falling into the ropes.

The fight between Davis and Romero had previously been scheduled for last December, but was rescheduled due to a sexual assault case against the latter, which ultimately led to no charges against the American.

In Romero’s absence, Davis won via unanimous decision against Isaac Cruz, which due to the nature of the win led to Romero commenting that the now 27-0 Davis was ‘vulnerable’.

Having won his first title in Brooklyn in 2017, Davis brought world championship boxing back to Brooklyn in the Barclays Center for the first time since the pandemic with a crowd of nearly 19,000.

Until Davis’ knockout left hook, the fight was an evenly contested affair, despite Romero’s claims prior to the fight that he would knock Davis out in the first round.
