Gerrard could repeat Coutinho masterclass with Villa swoop for £17m-rated "monster" - opinion
Aston Villa signing Liverpool defender Nat Phillips is a “real possibility” in this January transfer window…
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Pete O’Rourke said: “There may be a real possibility that Gerrard could move for Nat Phillips and if they were to put up the right offer, it seems that Liverpool won’t stand in Phillips’ way to leave.”
O’Rourke’s claim was then followed up by transfer insider Dean Jones, who revealed: “Obviously, Nat Phillips is a Liverpool player, so Steven Gerrard has connections there.
“Liverpool would probably be more open to the idea of him going to work for Gerrard and having some sort of agreement or a buyback clause inserted if that was something they wanted to look into, which I think they are.”
It was only last year after watching him shine against RB Leipzig in the Champions League that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was waxing lyrical about him, saying: “Oh my god. What a boy he is, what player he is, what a night it is for him.
“That’s absolutely great. The concentration level he shows now week in week out since he is playing for us is absolutely incredible. In the air he is a monster and you could see today football-wise he is not bad.”
As Klopp says, Phillips is an aerial machine, and looked in impressive form when filling in for the injured Virgil van Dijk last season in the premier League.
As per Whoscored, Phillips won a whopping 5.6 aerial duels per game as he was given more game-time by Klopp to replace the injured Van Dijk – to put that into context, the Dutchman himself has won 3.5 per match in the top-flight this term.
With that real aerial presence, and Premier League experience, the £17m-rated beast would surely be a firm favourite of Gerrard should he make the move.
