George Russell discusses what we can expect from Mercedes this weekend

George Russell has hinted that Mercedes are bringing new tweaks to their car for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but warned that it won’t be a ‘silver bullet’ that fixes all their problems overnight.

The Silver Arrows look the third-fastest team at the moment on out and out performance, with Ferrari and Red Bull showing their extra advantage as they battled for the first race win of the season last weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Whereas Ferrari converted that into a one-two finish, though, Red Bull suffered a double retirement and that naturally was a kick in the teeth for them.

Mercedes’ gain it was, though, as they finished 3rd and 4th and Russell, speaking to Sky, said it was down to the team that they have got that early reliability factor into the car, and the hope this weekend is that they will have some improvements to help them close the gap to the front two:

“You’ve got to be in it to win it and last weekend was a reminder you can’t take reliability for granted.

“You’ve got to give credit to all the guys and girls back in the factory for delivering a reliable car for the first race so we could capitalise on others’ misfortune but ultimately we need to find some more pace from the car.

“We’ve got some things to try. It’s not going to be a silver bullet, and it’s going to be a work in progress so we are going at it methodically and not doing anything crazy without any testing it first.”

Everyon is backing Mercedes to eventually get back up to the front of the field to battle it out with Red Bull and Ferrari, it just remains to be seen how long it will take this season.
