George Russell captured in new Mercedes overalls as fans purr over outfit

Fans were treated to a first look at George Russell in his brand new Mercedes overalls ahead of his first season with the team. The young Briton is set to take to the track for the first time as a permanent driver for the Silver Arrows in testing later this month, before the 2022 season opener in Bahrain on March 20.

Russell replaces Valtteri Bottas at the team, with the Finn having left for Alfa Romeo after five seasons of largely living in Lewis Hamilton's shadow.

Russell will be under pressure from the get-go to prove that he can provide real competition for the seven-time world champion now he is in a competitive car.

For now, though, he is simply getting used to his new surroundings ahead of his 24th birthday next week.

On Friday, Mercedes released the first photoshoot image of Russell wearing his 2022 overalls after teasing such a reveal on their official Twitter account.

And so there was a huge reaction when the image was posted online, of Russell modelling his brand new colours complete with his racing number 63.

"Doesn't he look like a champion already?" was one excited fan's response, adding: "Look at George! He was born to drive for the best! Mercedes!"

Another dubbed the young racer "Prince George", adding: "Hands on hips and looking the part, can't wait till you guys unleash this dynamic duo in the new era."
