George Kambosos Jr eyes training alongside UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski

Australian boxing star George Kambosos Jr. says he would relish the experience of training alongside Aussie UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski following his historic title fight this weekend against Teofimo Lopez.

Kambosos will become the first Australian fighter to ever fight for five world titles in one fight on November 28, while Volkanosvki is fresh off an enthralling second title defence against Brian Ortega.

The 28-year-old believes they both have invaluable knowledge that could help improve the skill of the other.

“I would love to train with him,” Kambosos told 7NEWS.com.au.

“We were meant to do a bit of sparring one time, but our schedules didn’t meet up.

“But when I bring all those belts back, and he’s obviously the UFC featherweight king, how good would that be training side by side.

“I could help sharpen his hands with the boxing and he could help me sharpen up my grappling, inside work and clinch work.”

The Aussie boxer has only admiration for his fellow Australian who he also shares Greek heritage with.

“I’m a massive fan of his. The last fight he had with Ortega had me on the edge of my seat and jumping around,” The Sydneysider said.

“The raw hunger he showed to survive nearly getting chocked out was incredible.

“It is a testament to the kind of fighter he is.”

Although Australia has a small population compared to other fighting nations, Kambosos thinks that Volkanovski and himself are an indication of how good Australian fighters are becoming.

“Here in Australia, we are a very small country when it comes to combat sports,” Kambosos said.
