Genius: Sky Sports man reveals 'clever' Conte Spurs tactic that 'caught out' Man City stars

Sky Sports pundit Lyall Thomas has given his thoughts on Antonio Conte’s tactics at Tottenham Hotspur following their recent win in the Premier League.

Tottenham gave their chances of reaching the top four a massive boost this past weekend as they managed to squeak out a late 3-2 win at the home of the champions thanks to Harry Kane’s last-minute winner.

And part of their success was down to how well that they managed to keep Manchester City at bay for the majority of the game, with the Premier League’s second-highest goalscorers being forced to rely on Tottenham’s errors for their goals – the first coming when Huge Lloris spilled Raheem Sterling’s cross into the path of Ilkay Gundogan to slot home, whilst their second was as a result of a penalty given against Cristian Romero for handball.

And taking to Twitter, Thomas pointed out one moment in particular that best demonstrated how well Conte’s men were able to keep the Manchester City attack at an arm’s distance away, as they gave them very few options with who to pass to given their defensive stronghold:

It’s fair to say that life at Tottenham certainly hasn’t been easy for Conte so far, as he hasn’t been able to guide them to a consistent run of form since his appointment, which has ultimately left them with a lot of work to do between now and the end of the season.

But if he was able to coach them up to a level where they could be that disciplined in open play against arguably the best team in the country, then it goes to show that his methods might just be getting through to the players after all.
