Marcelo Bielsa saw his Leeds United side fall to another defeat, this time at the hands of an inconsistent Spurs. The London club left Elland Road with three points via a comprehensive 4-0 win.

Immediately after the full time whistle, reports emerged via the Athletic that Bielsa was set to be axed as Leeds boss, with Jesse Marsch in the wings to take over. While his successor is yet to be named, Bielsa has paid the ultimate price for the recent run of form and has been sacked.

It was hardly a surprise to see his position come under scrutiny, with the Whites well and truly in a relegation dog fight, and having the unwanted record of the most goals conceded in the Premier League.

But with reports linking the club to Jesse Marsch, what could be the two potential knock-on effects of that appointment?

If Marsch was to take over at Leeds United, it could be the dream that Joe Gelhardt has been after. He has a track record of developing young talent into world class footballers who move onto bigger and better things.

His time at RB Salzburg saw him develop an array of talent. He was at the club during the development of Erling Haaland, Takumi Minamino and Dominik Szoboszlai, giving them much-needed first team football.

We all know the story of Haaland, a star forward dubbed a future winner of the Ballon d’Or. Minamino was helped to seal his ‘dream’ move to Liverpool after his time under the American at Salzburg. And, more recently, we’ve seen Szoboszlai move to the Bundesliga, showing how Marsch helps accelerate the growth of players and helps them move onto a bigger stage.
