Gary Rowett makes Millwall transfer claim involving Jed Wallace

News at Den

The influential attacking midfielder was strongly linked with a move away from the Den last month and even appeared to be close to leaving as the likes of Besiktas and Nottingham Forest attempted to snare him away from South London.

In the end Wallace stayed put with the Lions but was unfortunately sidelined for the best part of two months after picking up a quad injury in December.

Now Rowett has opened up on how his star player felt when the interest came about for his services last month, as he stated the following recently:

“Part of his frustration, I don’t think it was necessarily the January situation, it was that he wanted to play.

“When you’re out injured and there’s loads of speculation that’s not particularly a great place for a player to be in. You want to be playing football and showing it on the pitch.”

Wallace has hit five goals and racked up seven assists for Millwall this season, underlining just how important he is to what they are trying to achieve under Rowett.

He could however leave on a free this summer as his current contract is due to expire at the end of June.

The Verdict

It was so important for Millwall that they held onto Wallace and now they are starting to see him get back into form following his return from injury.

He is a player that adds not only creativity but all important goals and is arguably one of the best in his position in the Sky Bet Championship.

At present he is likely to move on in the summer but most fans of the club will probably wish him well.

He has given so much to them over the years and deserves to play at a higher level moving forwards.
