Gary Neville: When Man Utd icon took his 'first penalty' live on Sky Sports

Gary Neville is a bona fide footballing legend.

In the eyes of many, the Manchester United icon is the greatest right-back in Premier League history.

Neville was the hallmark of consistency and rarely ever put a foot wrong during his 19 years in the Red Devils’ first-team.

The defender-turned-pundit also won a ridiculous number of trophies at club level, including eight Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, three FA Cups and two League Cups.

Neville’s footballer CV speaks for itself and it’s why he’s still England‘s most capped right-back with 85 caps.

But unlike some full-backs past and present, Neville never possessed a keen eye for goal. In fact, he found the back of the net just seven times in 599 games for United and failed to score even once for England.

Jamie Carragher and Paul Merson were absolutely loving it in the crowd, while Martin Tyler and Alan Smith’s commentary only added to the comedic moment.

Neville’s shocking attempt at a penalty live on Sky Sports was actually remarkably similar to Cristiano Ronaldo‘s against Middlesbrough in this year’s FA Cup.

That evening at Old Trafford, the Portuguese superstar – who is usually deadly from 12 yards – fired his shot wide of the post, much to the shock of those watching around the world.

Maybe the greatest
