Gary Neville has told Erik ten Hag how he can ease Manchester United's biggest transfer fear

A section of Manchester United fans have already expressed their concerns over their club’s pulling power this summer.

They have seen Liverpool sign former target Darwin Nunez and Manchester City land Erling Haaland in the last week while they are yet to make a signing. This might be painful but even the most vehement United follower knows they are under a long-term project to get back to the level their rivals are playing at with Erik ten Hag.

United supporters have called for the board to give their new boss time, as the fans will. Anyway, there’s a long way to go this summer and United may not have any problems attracting players next year if the project goes to plan.

Speaking earlier this year, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher emphasised that the first stage of this plan must be to secure a top-four spot next season - which is presumably Ten Hag’s aim too.

Talking about the 2022/23 campaign, Carragher said: "He (Ten Hag) has to get Champions League football, he has to. All the great clubs should be judged in the Premier League and Champions League."

Meanwhile, Neville laid out a five-year blueprint for the Dutchman, which ultimately ends in a push for the title.

Within his explanation of it on Sky Sports, he said: “[Now it would be getting the club] in the top four, re-establishing Manchester United in the Champions League, attract the players into the club that can play in which the way he wants them to play.”
