Gary Lineker makes big Leicester City transfer statement

Gary Lineker believes former Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez is the best value signing in Premier League history. The winger signed for the Foxes in 2014 from French second division outfit Le Havre.

Mahrez spent four seasons at the King Power making over 150 appearances for the club, before joining the Premier League champions Manchester City in 2018 for £60million. During his time at City, the Algeria international went on to contribute to the Foxes' Premier League title in the 2015-2016 season while also winning the PFA's Player of the Year award.

"The players were almost open-mouthed at his skill," then manager Nigel Pearson said of the player he had at his hands, at the time. "The verdict among the other lads was, ‘We’ve got a player here’.

"My chief scout Steve Walsh spotted him and told me we had to sign him. He was convinced Mahrez would develop into a top player – and so did everyone else after his first training session at the club."

In a tweet that asked: "Pound-for-pound, what's the best value signing in the Premier League history?", the City legend replied: "When Leicester City bought Riyad Mahrez for €450K."
