Gary Lineker future latest: 'Final show' remark, Match of the Day update, BBC stance

Gary Lineker has addressed rumours linking him with an exit from BBC in his latest appearance on Match of the Day.

The 63-year-old's future had been thrown into question after an internal BBC email was reportedly leaked. The Daily Mail suggested that the corporation were drawing up a statement to announce his departure.

"We have nothing to announce, and we have not agreed next steps with regard to his contract," a BBC spokesperson said. "He is on contract until the end of the season." Lineker is in the final year of his current contract as host of the show, having been with the corporation since 1999.

He has always spoke highly of the show, saying: "It's been a part of my life, a big part of my life right from the start," Lineker previously said. "I watched it as a kid, it was the one night my dad would let me stay up to watch Match of the Day."

With that said, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest surrounding Lineker's future.

The Daily Mail reported last week, that an internal BBC email, indicated their plans are afoot to replace Lineker as the Match of the Day host.

When questioned about the email, the BBC maintained that the former Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona striker is under contract until the end of the season. A spokesperson for the BBC said: "We have nothing to announce, and we have not agreed next steps with regard to his contract. He is under contract until the end of the season."
