Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree with Man City fans about Harry Kane masterclass

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have lauded Harry Kane after the Tottenham striker produced a masterclass against the club who tried to sign him last summer.

Speculation over the England captain was at fever pitch either side of his Euro 2020 exploits. After splashing out £100million on Jack Grealish, though, Manchester City were ultimately priced out of a move for the 28-year-old and he reluctantly pledged his future to the north Londoners.

Kane has since re-emerged as a target for Pep Guardiola as he also weighs up a swoop for Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.

And the Spurs striker issued a timely reminder of his all-round quality at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon on Saturday evening.

Indeed, it was the three-time Golden Boot winner, who provided the telling pass for Dejan Kulusevski to open the scoring, with help from Son Heung-min, before making it 2-1 in the second half. Kane had a further goal ruled out for offside.

Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez twice equalised for City with the Algerian substitute tucking home a penalty in added-time after VAR intervened. There was further drama to come, though, as Kane went on to conjure up a late, late winner from close-range — adding the gloss to a sensational performance and getting everyone talking about him.

Lineker and Shearer have headed up praise for the Tottenham man after that 3-2 victory and City supporters have, also, made their feelings about Kane known. Here are a selection of comments made on social media;

@Paul__Deakins said: "You could see that [Kane scoring] coming from a mile away."

@MCS_DB posted: "It's that Harry Kane team again..."

@wilfybubble added: "Harry Kane has bossed his audition at the Etihad and Pep [Guardiola] must be drooling."
