Galway, Shels set to clash as WFAI Cup date confirmed

A mouth-watering clash between Galway United and Shelbourne headlines the first round of the Women's FAI Cup after the fixtures were confirmed for the first Saturday in August.

Galway currently sit in third place in the league, just one spot behind second-placed Shelbourne with a game in hand for the Tribeswomen.

Holders - and current league leaders - Athlone Town have a bye into the next round, but 10 other SSE Airtricity Premier Division teams will be in action from the beginning on the first Saturday in August.

Athlone held off Shelbourne after a penalty shootout at the Aviva Stadium last November. That result was a reversal of the 2022 decider when Shels beat the Westmeath side 2-0 to clinch the League and Cup double.

The two other all-Premier Division affairs include the meeting of Bohemians and Peamount United at Dalymount Park and Shamrock Rovers' clash with Wexford at Tallaght Stadium.

No less than four non-league clubs are involved, with Douglas Hall taking on Cork City, Whitehall Rangers coming up against DLR Waves, Terenure Rangers facing Sligo Rovers and Ferns United meeting Treaty United.
