Galway bring in Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe but lose Al-Amin Kazeem to St Pat's

Galway United have confirmed the signing of striker Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe from Glentoran.

The 30-year-old returns to the League of Ireland having previously played with Derry City, Dundalk, Sligo Rovers and Bohemians.

Ogedi-Uzokwe was top scorer in the League of Ireland Premier Division in 2019, when he scored 14 goals for Derry City.

"I'm very happy," told the Galway United website. "It’s been a long time coming to be fair. I’ve been speaking to John (Caulfield) for the past maybe year or so, where he wanted me to come to Galway and I don’t know, maybe at the time it wasn’t really the right time.

"But obviously now it’s just felt like the perfect time to be here. So yeah, I’m happy and hopefully I can just crack on and score some goals,"

Heading through the exit door at Eamonn Deacy Park is Al-Amin Kazeem, who has joined St Patrick's Athletic.

Kazeem played 20 times for Galway United on loan from Colchester United, his last appearance was in a 2-0 defeat to Shelbourne at Tolka Park last Friday.

The Tribesmen attemped to keep Kazeem on a permanent deal, only for Pat's to move in.

Saints boss Stephen Kenny said: "Al-Amin has excellent attributes for a left-back, he's really quick and a good attacking footballer but also loves to defend, often you can get left-wingers who are converted to left-backs and they like getting forward, but defensively they still have to learn the game, but Al-Amin certainly loves to defend as well.

"He has very good attributes and at 22, he has the capacity to improve and get better. He is someone with great values as a person and he has a real hunger to fulfil his potential, Al-Amin is very professional in the way he lives his life and the way he prepares, he will be an excellent addition to St Patrick's
