Galaxy frustrate AmaZulu in goalless draw to move further away from drop zone

AmaZulu were left frustrated as they were held to a goalless draw by TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The point sees Usuthu remain in seventh place on the league table while Galaxy moves up to 13th and two points above the relegation zone.

The home side came into the contest full of confidence, having achieved their first-ever victory in the CAF Champions League group stages, beating Guinean side Horoya 1-0 on Friday.

The positive result in the continental tournament indeed showed as AmaZulu dominated in the early stages through chances from Xolani Mlambo and Augustine Mulenga as they both tested the visiting goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi.

Galaxy had a glorious opportunity to take the lead in the 38th minute, but Orebotse Mongae steered his effort wide when he was one-on-one with keeper Veli Mothwa.

Usuthu finished the first-half strongly, and forward Abraham Majok should have scored but completely missed his header from two yards in front of the goal.

The chances dried up for the hosts after the interval as Galaxy started to look more compact and created some half opportunities of their own.

Substitute Shane Roberts made a difference for the visitors and went close with two long-range efforts that tested Mothwa.

Ultimately both teams did not do enough in the final third of the pitch to earn maximum points from the encounter.
