Gabriel Jesus to Manchester United from Man City is unthinkable transfer that works for everyone

There are around four miles between Manchester United's Old Trafford and Manchester City's Etihad Stadium. Only five players - Terry Cooke, Peter Schmeichel, Andy Cole, Carlos Tevez and Owen Hargreaves - have dared to cross that divide in recent memory.

Jadon Sancho played in City's academy but he never made an appearance for their first team after a dispute with Pep Guardiola and that prevents him from making the list. That didn't stop United from goading their rivals when signing Sancho last summer.

"This is his home, this is where he belongs," was written across United's social media when Sancho signed for £72.9million from Borussia Dortmund. Sancho was actually born in Camberwell, south London, but those at the club felt like he was destined to play in red, hence their persistent chase of his signature. It was United's modern-day version of 'Welcome to Manchester, Carlos Tevez'.

United should consider orchestrating another moment like that this summer. The club has spent £120m on right-wingers across the last two seasons [Sancho, Amad and Facundo Pellistri] and yet the position remains an obvious problem.

The Manchester Evening News understands Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Antony, but perhaps United should be looking at another Brazilian that predominantly now plays on the right wing instead, as Gabriel Jesus seems to tick all of the boxes.

The transfer is almost unthinkable, but it would work for everyone involved. Although Jesus was once viewed as the heir to Sergio Aguero at the Etihad, he wasn't prolific enough at centre-forward and his role recently evolved under Guardiola.
