GAA team nnews: Nickie Quiad to start for Limerick against Tipperay

Limerick goalkeeper Nickie Quaid has been named to start in their Munster championship opener against Tipperary on Sunday.

Quiad has made an incredible comeback from a cruciate ligament injury he suffered in November to start this weekend.

During the league, it was Jason Gillane and former forward Shane Dowling who started in place of Quaid, with Dowling on the bench on Sunday.

It was hoped Quiad could play some part in the championship, but to be back so soon was unexpected, as he plays his first game for Limerick since the All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Cork.

In Leinster, TJ Reid is out for Kilkenny's opener against Galway with a calf injury that could keep him out for six weeks.

Adrian Mullen, Eoin Cody and Mikey Carey have all been named to start for Kilkenny.

In football, Shane Walsh is still out for Galway for their Connacht semi-final against Roscommon.

Walsh has been out since an injury he picked up in the defeat to Dublin in the National League. Damien Comer is named among the replacements.

For Kerry, Seán O'Shea returns to the matchday squad having been out since February with injury.
