GAA round-up: Goal-hungry Cork sweep past Kerry

Cork racked up five goals as they started 2023 with bang, recording a 5-11 to 0-14 victory over All-Ireland champions Kerry in their McGrath Cup opener at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Three first-half goals from Brian Hurley, Chris Óg Jones and Colm O'Callaghan had John Cleary's team in control at the break, 10 points clear of Kerry by a 3-07 to 0-06 margin.

A fourth goal from Brian O'Driscoll five minutes after the resumption pushed the Rebels further clear and O'Callaghan's second goal on 48 minutes added icing to the cake in the Group A match-up.

Kerry's starting fifteen contained four of the starters from last July's All-Ireland final win over Galway with goalkeeper Shane Murphy, Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley and Diarmuid O'Connor featuring from the outset.

Jack O'Connor's side will meet Clare on Sunday at Austin Stack Park in their next group game.

In Group B, Limerick defeated Waterford 4-14 to 0-09 in Rathkeale.
