GAA round-up: All-Ireland champions Glen survive big scare, Cuala end wait for Dublin final spot

All-Ireland champions Glen were given a huge fright in their Derry SFC quarter-final before fending off Lavey on a 1-11 to 0-13 scoreline at Owenbeg.

In a low-scoring first half, the in-form Ethan Doherty scored a crucial goal just before the interval to give the Watty Graham's a 1-03 to 0-04 interval lead.

By the 40th minute, however, Lavey had levelled things up and Malachy O'Rourke, recently appointed Tyrone manager, and his players were in a bind.

The tit-for-tat nature of the game continued as Emmet Bradley and Niall Toner exchanged scores, and the underdogs took the lead with just two minutes remaining.

Glen showed why they are champions though as they fought back with Conleth McGuckian grabbing the winner deep into additional time.

Cuala finished like a train to book their spot in the Dublin SFC for the first time since 1988 following a 0-16 to 1-08 win over Ballymun at Parnell Park.

Paddy Small fisted over to give Ballymun the lead three minutes in and a Dean Rock free and a nice James McCarthy point had them two ahead with 20 minutes on the clock.

Cuala finished the half strongly though with Cillian Dunne cutting inside and kicking over to give them a 0-07 to 0-06 interval lead.

The early stages of the second half pointed to a tight finish with the sides level with 20 minutes to go, but Cuala – with Con O’Callaghan prominent – kicked eight points in a row to ease to the line.

Ballymun did grab a goal in stoppage time through Dean Robertson but it was nothing more than a consolation with Cuala now awaiting the winners of Kilmacud and Na Fianna.

Dunshaughlin are the first side into the 2024 Meath SFC final after a narrow 0-11 to 0-10 win over Dunboyne.
