GAA complete GAAGO purchase after buying RTÉ stake

The GAA has completed its takeover of GAAGO, and rebranded the streaming platform GAA+.

The GAA previously had a 50 per cent stake in GAAGO, with RTÉ holding the other half.

The platform was launched as a joint venture in 2014.

GAA president Jarlath Burns confirmed the purchase.

GAA+ will also launch a midweek programme. GAAGO has been embroiled in controversy after picking up games previously broadcast on Sky Sports.

Fans said the games should be free to air, while others claimed the service was unreliable, and frequently crashed during big games.

In October last year, it was revealed that subscription revenues at the joint venture surged last year by €2.6 million - some 118 per cent- to €4.96 million. Pre-tax profits increased by 47 per cent from €595,750 to €874,047.
