GAA club round-up: Midleton crash out, Ballygunner power on

All-Ireland champions Ballygunner cantered into the semi-final of the Waterford SHC as they demolished Fourmilewater in Walsh Park this afternoon.

New Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald was in attendance as the champions, seeking a ninth successive county title, eased to a win over Fourmilewater for the third year in a row in the last-eight phase.

Kevin Mahony's 25th minute lead opened up a 1-10 to 0-04, the result never in doubt thereafter, despite Sean Walsh's strike in the first minute of the second half.

Darragh O'Sullivan's side upped the gears to win by 12 points, 1-27 to 1-15, keeping their All-Ireland defence on track.

Earlier, the presence of 45-year-old Dan Shanahan failed to rally Lismore as they slumped to a 17-point loss to Mount Sion, Austin Gleeson rampant for the visitors, racking up 1-05 as they romped into the semi-finals.

On Saturday, De La Salle saw off 13-man Dungarvan to book their semi-final spot, Thomas O'Halloran notching 1-05 as they eased to a seven-point victory, 2-24 to 1-20 in the finish.

Also on Saturday evening, Roanmore overcame Abbeyside 1-22 to 2-11 to reach the last-four, ex-Waterford forward Gavin O'Brien landing a whopping 0-15, largely from placed balls. Goals from inter-county stars Mikey Kiely and Conor Prunty were ultimately in vain for Abbeyside.

There was a major shock in the Cork Premier SHC as defending champions Midleton crashed out of the championship in the group stages, losing their final group game to Kanturk.
