Fulham vs Liverpool: New boys hold title hopefuls

LONDON — New boys Fulham held Liverpool at Craven Cottage in a delightful topsy-turvy clash on the opening weekend of the new season.

Aleksandar Mitrovic twice gave newly-promoted Fulham the lead but Liverpool fought back as Darwin Nunez scored one and set up Mohamed Salah for another to grab a point.

This is not the start to the season Premier League title hopefuls Liverpool would have wanted, as Jurgen Klopp had a face like thunder on the sidelines as he saw his sloppy side fail to match Fulham’s intensity for large periods.

However, Marco Silva and Fulham will be delighted with grabbing a point and their fans let out an almighty roar at full time to signal their delight.

Maybe Aleksandar Mitrovic can do it in the Premier League? He powered home a trademark header for his first and slotted home a penalty for his second (after his fancy footwork bamboozled Virgil van Dijk, of all people) and he has two goals in his first Premier League game this season. He had three in 27 appearances the last time Fulham were in the top-flight. After breaking the Championship single-season scoring record last season (43 goals) many believed that Mitrovic just isn’t up to playing in the PL.
