"From what I gather..." - Journalist shares update as Aston Villa linked with 6 ft 4 colossus

Aston Villa are unlikely to sign any more centre-backs unless they sell one of their current defenders, according to The Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Villa have already been busy in the summer transfer window as Steven Gerrard looks to stamp his authority at the club.

The Villans have turned Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen’s loan spells into permanent moves, while they have also brought in Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara in the opening weeks of the window.

They have now been linked with Burnley’s Nathan Collins following a report by talkSPORT, after the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of last season.

The 6 foot 4 defender is also being monitored by Villa’s Midlands rivals Wolves, as well as Leeds.

Taylor does not expect Villa to sign Collins as he feels that Gerrard is happy with his current options at centre-back.

When asked whether Collins would be a sensible addition to Villa’s squad, Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “He would. I don’t know how concrete those links are, but from what I gather, unless someone leaves, I don’t think Villa will sign another centre-back. Obviously, they have Mings, Konsa, Carlos and Calum Chambers, who actually finished the season quite well.”

Gerrard has already bolstered his back line by bringing in Carlos, who has Champions League experience from his time at Sevilla.

However, the rest of the defence has stayed the same as last season, and Villa were only able to finish down in 14th in 2021/22.

Admittedly, Mings is an England international, but he was dropped from the latest England squad, suggesting that Gareth Southgate is no longer convinced by him, and Gerrard has previously stated
