Fresh update emerges on Jamie Paterson’s situation at Swansea

Jamie Paterson reportedly remains locked in a contract stand-off with Swansea City after the club extended his deal.

Jamie Paterson was one of the stars of the first half of the season as his partnership with forward Joel Piroe was key to Swansea performing well in featuring high in the table.

However, matters have turned sour of late after Swansea decided to extend Paterson’s deal. The former Bristol City and Nottingham Forest playmaker signed a one-year-deal in the summer with an option to extend.

According to the Daily Mail, Paterson was promised fresh terms after his good form during the first half of the season with the skilful attacker scoring eight goals and providing four assists.

Paterson was left unhappy with Swansea triggering his contract as he is reportedly one of the lowest earners in the squad and thought an improved contract would be a reward for his consistent performances this season.

The situation has been complicated further as QPR have reportedly had two bids turned down by Swansea, whilst Huddersfield and Blackburn remain interested but the club have so far refused to listen to offers.

The playmaker hasn’t played for Swansea since December 11 and is training with the clubs under-23’s as his future remains to be seen at Swansea.

The Verdict

It’s a messy situation for both Swansea and Paterson.

It seems neither party is benefitting from this impasse as Paterson continues to not be selected and Swansea have been unable to utilise his abilities.

Swansea’s form has dipped as well and that might not be all down to the absence of Paterson, but they were up to 8th earlier in the season as both Paterson and Swansea enjoyed a purple patch of form.

Whatever the case, it’s something that needs resolving sooner
