Fresh twist as Aston Villa transfer target Matthias Ginter 'agrees' move

Matthias Ginter has reportedly agreed a move to Bayern Munich.

The Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back has been linked with a move to Aston Villa as well as their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. Ginter is out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to leave Monchengladbach in the summer.

A 46-cap Germany international, Ginter is a top free agent when the current campaign draws to an end and Villa have been credited with an interest in the 28 year-old. It was reported in the national press a couple of weeks ago that centre backs Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa may come under scrutiny in the summer because of their performances in recent weeks.

Villa have been poor defensively in their current run of four straight losses, with nine goals conceded across those games. According to journalist Pedro Almeida, Bayern have reached an agreement with Ginter about signing the player.

It is claimed that the two parties have been discussing a move since the turn of the year and an official announcement will be made at the end of the current season. Only on Saturday did quotes emerge from Ginter, in conversation with German media outlet Sport1, talking about a move to Villa.

He was quizzed on interest from Steven Gerrard 's side and said: "I would like to hold back on specific clubs or domestic and foreign issues for the time being, but of course you talk to different people and you have a few things that are important to you.
