Frenkie de Jong told how to be a success at Manchester United

Frenkie de Jong has been told that adapting to the Premier League could be tough, but that he certainly has the capability to do so and be a success at Manchester United.

The transfer window opens on Friday and Erik ten Hag will be hoping his new club will be quick out the gates to make additions to the squad ahead of a return for pre-season training on June 27. United are in need of a big summer of recruitment to improve the side that registered the club's lowest ever Premier League points tally last term and to offset several departures.

Central midfield has been in need of reinforcement for years and is by far the biggest priority for the club as they head into the market. Barcelona midfielder De Jong has emerged as a major target, with Ten Hag keen on a reunion with the player he enjoyed much success with at Ajax.

De Jong is contracted to Barcelona until 2026, however, owing the club's continued financial peril they will need to sell players this summer in order to bring any in. With the Dutchman being one of the Catalonian's few expendable assets that would still fetch a high price, he may be forced out of the Camp Nou — even if he wants to stay.

Although Pallister says the transition to England is a tough one, he believes De Jong has the quality to be a success at Old Trafford if he completed the transfer.

“He's been a fantastic player, Ten Hag knows him, he knows his qualities, he knows his character," Pallister told Lord Ping. "There's a few conundrums for the new manager walking in.
