Frenkie de Jong to Man Utd: Barcelona star embarrassed Vinicius and Modric in 2019

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The Daily Mail reported on Friday that United are in talks over a £65m deal that would reunite De Jong with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

De Jong, 25, has even given the green light to join Ten Hag at Old Trafford, apparently.

So if United and Barcelona can reach an agreement over the fee then the transfer may well actually happen.

And given Barcelona’s financial instability, leaving the La Liga giants needing to sell, it shouldn’t be too difficult for that to happen.

De Jong is a supreme talent who hasn’t yet reached his peak, and his signing would be a significant step in Ten Hag’s plans to revolutionise the club.

Young, hungry and talented, the Barcelona star is exactly what the Red Devils need to get out of their current slump.

Ten Hag helped develop De Jong into the player he is today at Amsterdam, where the midfielder’s fine performances in 2018/19 introduced him to the world.

Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League that year. Along the way included memorable wins over Real Madrid and Juventus.

And De Jong would go viral after showing he belonged on the biggest stages at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In one moment from Ajax’s memorable 4-1 win against Real, De Jong embarrassed Vinicius Jr. and Luka Modric with a fine moment of movement and control.
