Fred confirms what Man Utd players think of Roy Keane and his views

Roy Keane has never been backwards in coming forwards with his views on Manchester United.

The former Red Devils captain has regularly been scathing in his criticism of present-day stars during his work as a pundit.

Midfielder Fred has often found himself in the firing line, and although Keane performed a partial U-turn after his goal against Leeds at the weekend, it's safe to say he's never been a fan of the midfielder.

But Fred has this week responded to the criticism he has faced from legends such as Keane, insisting he believes they are entitled to their opinion but he does not agree with their views.

Fred told TNT Sports: "They had many moments of glory for United and now they’re paid to give opinions, so I’m fine with it.

"It’s their job and it’s their right to do so. I don’t agree with it but it’s their opinion.

"I’m not confrontational, I’ve heard a lot of negative comments about me, always negative, but I won’t say anything back. My focus is to work on the pitch."

Fred's comments confirm what his team-mates have already made clear - that they ultimately do not place too much value on Keane's criticism.

Keane famously said of Fred and Scott McTominay: "As long as those two are playing in midfield for Manchester United, they will not be winning big trophies."

And McTominay had similar sentiments to Fred when he was asked what he makes of Keane's comments in the past.

The Scotland international was asked about the criticism from Keane last year and replied: “What did he say?”

“I didn’t see it, but it doesn’t ­matter. People talk. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and you have to respect that.
