Fred backs new Man Utd signing to help Erik ten Hag win trophies at Old Trafford

Fred has welcomed Christian Eriksen’s arrival at Manchester United and says the Denmark international can help the club with trophies.

Former Brentford, Inter Milan, Tottenham and Ajax midfielder Eriksen joined United on a free transfer last week.

Eriksen has signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford and Fred is adamant the 30-year-old will be a hit next season as Erik ten Hag looks to bring back the glory days at the Theatre of Dreams.

‘Great player – we all know about his quality,’ Fred told Manchester United’s official website. ‘He was at Tottenham, last season at Brentford, so he’s someone we know.

‘He’s got the ability, a great player, attacking, strikes the ball well, knows where the goal is. He’ll add to the team and he’ll be made very welcome in our team.

‘Together we can achieve our goals. He’s a very experienced player, I’m sure he’ll contribute a lot. He seems like a great person and will add to our group.

‘I’m fully behind him and hope that it all works out in our team. As I said we want to achieve our goals together and he can add a lot to our team.’

Eriksen helped Brentford avoid relegation to the Championship last season, making four assists in 11 Premier League games following his move to west London in January.

It was a remarkable return to the English top-flight for a player who suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during last summer’s Euros.

Before his major health scare, Eriksen helped Inter Milan win the Serie A title and had enjoyed seven successful seasons at United’s Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Eriksen is now one of three Scandinavian players at Old Trafford alongside Victor Lindelof and Anthony Elanga.
