Frank Lampard's verdict on Donny van de Beek shows Manchester United what they're missing

Frank Lampard has lauded Donny van de Beek’s start at Everton after the Manchester United loanee made an instant impact on his first start for the club.

The midfielder was given the nod for the first time since making the move on loan from United on deadline day, and he wasted no time in enamouring himself to the Goodison Park crowd.

Van de Beek played a big role in Everton’s opener against Leeds, having seen his dangerous cross cut out only as far as Seamus Coleman to head in.

And he continued to impress as the hosts took a commanding lead through Michael Keane, before Anthony Gordon wrapped up the three points 12 minutes from time to hand the Toffees a much-needed win.

Having handed a timely reminder to his parent club, after United once again flattered to deceive in their 1-1 draw with Southampton, Lampard further underlined the Netherlands international’s qualities.

“In a midfield two against Leeds is tough because of their movement, and because they get a lot of rotation and movement in midfield,” Lampard said.

“Him (Van de Beek) and Allan were fantastic, also Donny on the ball giving us a sense of calm and intelligence, and a nice rhythm in the team, and he’s going to get better and better.
