Frank Lampard has passionately defended Dele Alli over criticism after Everton unveiling
Frank Lampard showed his class once again by defending Dele Alli after the midfielder was criticised during his unveiling for Everton.
Lampard responded to criticisms from former players over Alli’s choice of attire for his unveiling ceremony at his new club, and the car he drove to his first training session.
Most players arrive for their unveiling in either the club kit or training attire, but the England international opted for jeans, a coat and a hat and scarf. Although considering the nippy English weather it was more than understandable.
However, that didn’t stop ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle from commenting on the midfielder’s outfit. Hoddle was unimpressed with Alli’s attire, insinuating that the 25-year-old should have put in more effort.
“I didn’t like the way he walked out on the pitch with what he was wearing,” said Hoddle. “I thought he’d just got dragged off the street to be honest. Put a tracksuit on at least or something.”
Although Hoddle failed to mention that Donny Van de Beek also arrived in jeans and a coat, albeit less flashy versions than the ex-Tottenham star.
