Frank Lampard drops Chelsea team news hint in boost to Manchester United

Frank Lampard has hinted he may throw in more Chelsea youngsters against Manchester United as their poor form continues.

Erik ten Hag's side host the Blues at Old Trafford on Thursday as they look to continue their push for UEFA Champions League qualification. Saturday's 2-0 win over Wolves has put United in the driving seat for a top-four finish.

Chelsea, by contrast, might find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League after a disastrous campaign. They drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at the weekend as their poor form continued.

Their big-money signing have not delivered this season and that has led to Lampard including more young talent in recent matches. Lewis Hall started at left-back against Forest whilst Omari Hutchinson, Carney Chukwuemeka, David Datro Fofana and Gabriel Slonina could be involved.

"They may be looked at in the next few games," Lampard told Football.London. "We need to try and get the results, so I have to think about that, putting out a strong team.

"But of course, it comes back to how people train through the week and what they show you. I don't think you can hold your head up amongst the squad if people are not training [well] and maybe put them in the team. The players have to earn that.

"Lewis [Hall] trained well so he gets his place. Those younger players in the squad have to compete to get their chance - we'll see, though, we'll see."
