Frank Lampard confirms Yerry Mina surgery decision and Everton recovery plan

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Yerry Mina did not require surgery as the Everton defender's latest recovery from injury continues.

The centre-back suffered a quadriceps issue in the first half of his side's recent loss to to Newcastle United earlier in the month, with the manager confirming that the Colombia international would spend an extended period on the sidelines.

The boss later revealed that the 27-year-old would be out for at least eight-ten weeks with his latest issue, having made ten Premier League appearances for his side so far this term.

Last week, Lampard was hopeful that Mina would not require surgery on his injury - and the manager has now confirmed that is still the case.

He revealed: "No he didn't [need surgery], and we hope that remains the same.

"So we're working on the injury now, Yerry's here working with our medical team to try and make some early strides in making sure he recovers.

"I know he's had some repetitive kind of injuries, different injuries, but he's had his issues. I think it's really important we focus on this one to get it right.

"It won't be surgery, it'll be a lot of work behind-the-scenes and obviously it's quite a long injury so Yerry will need some time mentally to have a breather at times.

"We'll do our best to make sure he comes back hopefully preventing further injuries off the back of it."

Mina has made 11 appearances in all competitions throughout 2021/22 so far, including scoring the first goal of Lampard's tenure at Goodison Park with a header against Brentford in the FA Cup.
