Four teams battle for N5m in five-a-side tourney
The four teams in the semifinals of the Spires Media Five-A-Side football competition will begin their final battles for the N5 million prize money at the Stable Football Pitch, Bode Thomas Street, Surulere, Lagos, today.
The four semifinalists are ASD Academy, All Saints FC, Two Odds FC and White Tigers FC.
Two Odds FC defeated Top Rocks FC 6-1 to secure their semifinal spot, while All Saints FC beat Super Eagles FC 2-1. To qualify for the last four, White Tigers brushed aside Potters FC, while ASD Academy strolled to a 3-1 victory over VCD FC.
Speaking on the semifinals, the initiator of the tournament, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Spires MEDIA, Dr Femi Bankole-Allibay, expressed his excitement on the quality of matches played so far, saying he looks forward to the final games.
“We are ready. The match between ASD Academy and All Saints FC will kick-off by 1.00 p.m., while that of Two Odds FC and White Tigers FC is slated for 3.00 p.m.,” he said.
Bankole-Allibay added that several ex-internationals, notable football stakeholders and enthusiasts will grace the grand finale on Saturday, December 7.
The winner of the competition will receive N5 million, the runner up will pocket N3 million, while the third-placed team will get N1 million, he said, adding that there will also be individual prizes for the MVP, the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper, Best Coach, as well as the Team of the Tournament.
