Foundation picks December 30 for maiden Ohuhu 18km walkathon, exercise
The Andrew Ogbonna Chikwendu Foundation has announced that the maiden Ohuhu 18km Walkathon Sporting and Exercise Picnic will hold in Ohuhu, Umuahia, Abia State, on December 30.
According to the organisers, the Walkathon, which the foundation is organisng with support from Ogwe-Ama Fitness Club, is tagged – Walk4Fun Walkathon and Exercise Picnic, with the theme ‘Our Lives, Our Community,’ is patterned after other global sporting events such as the Lagos Marathon, the Obudu Mountain Race, and the Boston Walk.
The event is a combination of an 18 km walk, involving participants of all ages and an exercise picnic incorporating light physical fitness routines, health checks, music, fun and food.
Unveiling the event in Umuahia on Tuesday, the Foundation said: “The event we are announcing today is an expression of the Andrew Ogbonna’s Foundation’s ideals of inclusiveness and the improvement of the lives of the members of its immediate community and Ogwe-Ama Fitness Clubs’ goal of sports and exercise as gateway to a healthy life amongst its members.
“Finding accord in their shared goals of inclusive and harmonous community living, the Andrew Ogbonna Foundation and the Club are collaborating to organise and deliver this family friendly sporting event/ fiesta in Ohuhu land, thoughtfully planned to hold during the end of year period when most people at home and in the diaspora traditionally visit home to felicitate with kit and kin to promote togetherness, inclusiveness and kinship, and the benefits of regular walking exercises among members of the community individually or in groups as a fun and immensely beneficial way of retaining good health and improving bonds of communal living and wellbeing.”
