Former Tottenham star reveals one thing Conte ‘could not stand’ about Tanguy Ndombele

One former Tottenham star believes Antonio Conte “could not stand for” Tanguy Ndombele’s “free-spirited” approach.

The talented France midfielder, who remains under contract in north London until 2025, sealed a deadline-day switch to former club Lyon after publically falling out with Conte.

The club’s record signing has shown moments of why Spurs splashed out £54million in 2019. However, they were few and far between and he barely featured after Conte took over as manager last November.

Since making his return to France, the 25-year-old revealed he needed to get his ‘taste’ for the game back again.

And former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton has had his say on the midfielder’s north London woes.

He told Football Insider: “I think it’s the best they could have done in a bad situation.

“Conte isn’t the type of guy who wants players that aren’t playing at 110 per cent anywhere near the squad.

Ndombele seems that type of character. He’s a free spirit and wants to do his own thing. Conte couldn’t stand hat.

“He has spoken about him publicly in those terms. If they can get as much money back as possible, that would be a good deal for Tottenham.

“We’ve seen flashes of brilliance from him but it’s not worked out. It makes sense for him to go back where he’s more comfortable.

“Hopefully they take him on at the end of the season and Spurs get the money back that they paid for him.”

Ndombele scored just twice and added a single assists in 16 appearances for Spurs this season.

He made his second Lyon debut from the bench as his side lost 2-0 at Monaco on Saturday.
