Former Real Madrid and Everton star wants Liverpool to win the Champions League

Former Everton and Real Madrid star James Rodriguez is hoping to see Liverpool win the Champions League this season.

Liverpool will meet the Spanish champions in Paris on 28 May as they chase down a historic quadruple, having kept alive their Premier League title hopes alive with a win over Aston Villa on Tuesday with the FA Cup final showdown against Chelsea awaiting on Saturday.

Rodriguez won the Champions League twice with Real Madrid during his six years at the club before reuniting with his former Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti at Everton.

Despite playing for Real and Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals, the playmaker is hoping to see Jurgen Klopp’s side lift the famous trophy again this month so his fellow Colombian Luis Diaz can taste that success.

‘Liverpool are going through a very good moment and they have Luchito Diaz there,” James told Cadena SER. ‘I want Lucho to become champion.

‘But Madrid are very tough in this type of game. We saw that in the quarter-final and the semi-final.

‘They have a lot of history and it’s going to be tough. I have former teammates at Real Madrid, I love the club very much.

‘They have a long history in this type of game but Liverpool can put in a great performance.

‘I want Lucho to be champion.’

Rodriguez left Everton after one underwhelming season last September to join Qatari side Al-Rayyan.

The 30-year-old has suggested however he is keen to return to European football.

‘The transfer market will open soon, we’ll see,’ he said. ‘Returning to elite football is a serious possibility. Let’s see who wants my left foot again.’
