Former Norwich City manager linked with Stoke City role

According to the Mirror, the former Norwich City manager is on Stoke’s radar in the event that they decide to replace Michael O’Neill.

O’Neill’s position has come under scrutiny as the Potters’ play-off hopes fade fast.

Stoke have fallen to 16th in the Championship amid a poor run of form this side of the new year.

The former Northern Ireland boss’ contract runs out in 2023, but pressure is mounting following this slide down the table.

O’Neill even recently admitted that he recognises the pressure he is under and that performances must improve otherwise he will be moved on.

“We have to show more and believe more,” said O’Neill, via the Mirror.

“It isn’t good enough and won’t be good enough to keep them at this club. It will not be good enough to keep me at this club, I am honest enough to know that as well. We concede goals far too easy and lack a bit of physical presence upfront , there is no doubt about that.”

Farke had made his return to management only two months ago with Krasnodar, but the invasion of Ukraine by Russia has seen him leave the post without even managing a single game for the club.

That means the German is now available if Stoke do decide to pounce.

Farke won two Championship titles with Norwich during his time with the club, before he was dismissed earlier this season with the club struggling in the Premier League.

Football is a ruthless business and contracts are rarely worth the paper they are written on in terms of job security.

Farke would be a strong appointment for Stoke to make given his incredible track record in the Championship.

O’Neill had shown in the past that he could be capable of bringing Stoke back to the Premier League.

But his time at the Potters now looks to be ending
