Former Millwall, Cardiff, Huddersfield and Fulham defender Scott Malone signs for Gillingham

Gillingham have completed a deal to sign former Millwall man Scott Malone.

The left-back has been training with the Gills all summer and went with them on tour to Como but has now signed a contract with the League 2 side.

Malone, who plays on the left side in either defence or midfield, became a free agent following his release by Millwall, who he has played for in two separate spells.

He started his career at Wolves and went onto play for Bournemouth before his first stint at Millwall.

He joined Cardiff City in January 2015, despite interest from German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Malone has also played in the Championship for Fulham and then for Huddersfield in the Premier League before moving to Derby in the second tier and then a return to Millwall, playing 32 games for them last season before being released.

The Gills have already signed left-back Max Clark but didn’t have an abundance of cover on that side, with Robbie McKenzie and Cheye Alexander
