Former Manchester United star snubs David de Gea in Premier League's best goalkeepers this season
While Manchester United have endured a dismal season, David de Gea is one of a very select few who can emerge from the campaign with any credit.
The goalkeeper has been a rare shining light in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Reds. Having looked set to lose his number one spot to Dean Henderson last season, De Gea has been back at his best during the 2021/22 campaign, with his heroics often digging his side out of games.
The Spain international looks a good bet to earn yet another Player of the Year award, having already won the Sir Matt Busby award four times in the past. His form though hasn’t been enough it seems to be recognised by a former United keeper.

Asked for the four best goalkeepers of the current Premier League season, Ben Foster instead named Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Manchester City’s Ederson, Wolves’ Jose Sa and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale. The absence of De Gea was picked up immediately, with the Watford keeper admitting he had other names in mind.
"I've had to streamline it to four goalkeepers," Foster said on the Fozcast Podcast when asked about De Gea's absence. “I could have gone for about five more as well I could have put Islan Meslier and Hugo Lloris for an honourable mention.
"I could have kept going on the honourable mentions forever. But even though a lot of people are going to say to me 'oh you're going to go for the big boy, you’re going to go for the big name', I have to go for Alisson - I just think he’s the full package."
