Former Manchester United defender says Erik ten Hag can justify his appointment with one signing

Antony has been heavily tipped to follow Erik ten Hag from Ajax to Manchester United this summer.

Ten Hag could look to bring some of his current playing squad with him when he steps into the manager’s role at United. Fans are calling for the 52-year-old to overhaul the first-team squad after a dismal season.

Jurrien Timber is another Ajax player being linked with a move to Manchester, but it is Antony who has fans most excited. The attacker has 12 goals and 10 assists to his name this season.

Many feel he would provide good competition for Anthony Elanga, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford and push them on to enhance their performances in fear of losing game-time to Antony. Former United defender Gary Pallister has said that the signing of Antony would help justify Ten Hag’s appointment.

He explained to Genting Casino: “These are the kind of players that excite fans. The player has ability and if United feel that the manager can make him a better player at Manchester United, then that justifies a reason for United bringing in Ten Hag - to identify these kinds of talents.

“There's been a number of great players who have come out of Ajax and achieved great things. So if Ten Hag believes that Antony has the ability and the mentality to deal with a move to United then I'd have no problems with him coming, because you have to back the manager.”
