Former Hacienda DJ returns to Manchester to open yoga studio

Next week, Manchester will warmly welcome back into the fold one of the world's 'most renowned' yoga teachers as he launches a new yoga studio in the city.

Ex-Hacienda DJ, Matt Ryan, is back in Manchester to launch YogaMCR, a new studio on Duke Street, just off Deansgate. The 'no-nonsense' yoga studio, will feature morning, lunchtime and evening workshops, designed for everyone from beginners to seasoned yoga enthusiasts - with the main objective to make yoga accessible for all.

After what Matt describes as a "whirlwind" romance with house music, which led him to DJing at the legendary Manchester nightclub, he hung up his headphones in the early 2000s and swapped North West England for Southern India to immerse himself in the practice of Ashtanga yoga. Since then, he's taught yoga in locations across the world to a host of famous faces and has set up studios in London, Los Angeles and Manchester.

Matt said: “Having travelled the world for 20 years teaching Ashtanga Yoga to people of all walks of life, I felt it only right to come back to where my yoga journey initially began.

"Returning to Manchester is something I’ve always wanted to do, and I can’t wait to teach Mancs that yoga can be for everyone, it doesn’t have to be just for people looking to find themselves within but for anyone wanting to be fitter, more flexible and stronger in mind and body. Come and stretch out, you’ll definitely feel better for it, that I can guarantee.”

As well as holding the highly coveted Ashtanga Yoga Level 2 teaching authorisation, his own personal yoga practice incudes working through into the Advanced B series - making him one of the few yoga
