Former firefighter jailed for raping young girl

A former firefighter has been sentenced to a decade in prison following a string of child sex offences. Kevin Jones had previously appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday January 27, where he pleaded guilty to six sexual offences, including three counts of rape of a girl under 16.

All of the abuse occurred when the victim was in her teens. Jones, 49, from Norman Road, Runcorn, admitted all of the offences.

Jones, who previously worked for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, returned to Crown Court today on Wednesday 31 May, where he was sentenced to 10 years in prison plus five years on licence.

Detective Constable Michaela Flynn, who led the investigation, said: “Firstly, I would like to recognise the bravery and determination that the victim has shown throughout this investigation. What Jones put her through was truly horrifying, he systematically abused her to fulfil his own sexual gratification.

“The sentence handed to Jones reflects the severity of his crime and I hope that his conviction will encourage other victims to come forward. We treat all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and we will always do our best to ensure offenders are brought to justice.”

To report any sexual offence, call Cheshire Constabulary on 101 or visit https://www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report/rsa/alpha-v1/v1/rape-sexual-assault-other-sexual-offences/. Information can also be given anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
