Former Dartford manager Alan Dowson is named interim boss of National League South Hemel Hempstead

Former Dartford manager Alan Dowson is back in football management.

Dowson has been named as interim manager of National League South Hemel Hempstead for the final 10 games of their season.

The 53-year-old Geordie is working for free, according to Hemel Hempstead.

It means there’s a quick return to Princes Park for the former Darts manager, who was sacked by the club in January after a run of poor results, with Dartford due to host Hemel Hempstead on Saturday, March 23.

Hemel are looking for a new manager after sacking former Welling boss Brad Quinton. They sit 16th in the table but are 10 points away from the relegation zone.

A statement from Hemel said: “We are pleased to confirm that Alan Dowson has generously offered to step in and take charge of the team at Hemel Hempstead Town on an interim basis for the remaining 10 games of the season.

“Alan will be providing his invaluable support to the club on a voluntary basis, prioritising a strong finish to the season. With his extensive experience managing numerous games in the National League South, including involvement in the current campaign with Dartford, Alan brings immediate knowledge of opponents to the team.

“He will now work with the players to prepare them for our upcoming match against Eastbourne on Saturday. We look forward to Alan's leadership and the team's performance in the upcoming matches.

“The club will spend the rest of this season evaluating the needs and priorities for the 24/25 season, ensuring continued success and progress.”

Dartford appointed former Gillingham boss Ady Pennock as their new manager on Friday after a seven-week search to replace Dowson.

Pennock is relishing the challenge ahead of his first game in charge at Torquay this Saturday.
