Former Aston Villa and Liverpool man lined up for shock Wolves transfer

Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering a move for former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to reports.

The 31-year-old made his name in England after joining Villa in August 2012 for around £7m. The Belgian was a resounding success in claret and blue, scoring 49 goals in 101 appearances - including 19 in his debut season.

But having made a £32m switch to Anfield in 2015, Benteke struggled to recapture the same goalscoring form, ultimately leading to his move to Crystal Palace just a year after arriving at Anfield.

Now, as the former Villa man enters the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park, a return to the Midlands could be on the cards - but this time in old gold rather than claret and blue. According to The Sun, Wolves are 'considering' a move for Benteke as they look for reinforcements upfront following Fabio Silva's exit on loan to Anderlecht.

Apparently, Benteke is just one of the options being explored by Bruno Lage's recruitment team, but what is clear is that forward reinforcements are desperately needed at Molineux. Wolves have heavily relied on Raul Jimenez's goals in the past, but with the Mexican scoring just six goals in the 2021/22 season, support will be needed going into the next campaign.
