Foreign Office warns of travel ‘disruption’ in Greece due to strikes
Brits heading to Greece on holiday this week have been warned of strikes causing disruption in the country. The UK Foreign Office has issued an update for UK travellers as transport and healthcare are set to be impacted by the industrial action.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warned that there could be “possible disruption to public transport and health services” today, September 21. It comes as a general strike has been called in Greece, which began at midnight this morning and will last until midnight tonight.
Holidaymakers travelling today have been urged to check with their transport provider to see if their services are going ahead. Healthcare staff are also walking out, but emergency services will continue to operate.

The FCDO said: “A general strike has been called in Greece for Thursday 21 September (00:01 – 24:00).Ferries may be affected and many airports may be closed.
“Check with your transport provider if you are planning to travel by sea or air on 21 September. Buses and Metro services may also be affected.
“Hospital staff are supporting the strike, but emergency services will operate. Consult your hospital directly should you have an appointment planned on 21 September. Protests are scheduled across the country with two major rallies scheduled in Athens.”
