Ford or Burns? We select our Leicester Tigers team to face Exeter Chiefs

Leicester Tigers will be back in Gallagher Premiership action this weekend against Exeter Chiefs.

Steve Borthwick’s side sit top of the Premiership and have won six out of their nine Premiership away fixtures this season - but have lost all six of their most recent visits to Sandy Park.

The Six Nations are now complete, so Borthwick and his coaching team will be able to consider their international contingent, too.

Here, rugby writer Ethan Clamp picks his 23-man squad for Sunday afternoon’s encounter…

11. Nemani Nadolo, 14. Harry Potter, 15. Freddie Steward; 23. Guy Porter.

Tigers should be able to call on the services of Freddie Steward after the full-back had an excellent debut Six Nations. Barring an injury, it would be a surprise not to see Tigers’ rock at the back bare the 15 shirt, especially with the bye week next weekend.

Hosea Saumaki had a strong showing last Friday night in Newcastle, but you cannot look past Nadolo after his excellent performance against London Irish a fortnight ago.

Chris Ashton again proved what an astute signing he will be with his performance off the bench against Irish, but Potter has proved this season that he is Tigers’ first choice right-winger. Porter gets our 23 shirt for his impact and versatility.

: 12. Dan Kelly. 13. Matt Scott

Matias Moroni has had some impressive performances for Tigers on his return to fitness and you could see Borthwick going with him for his defensive prowess. But we’ve gone for the Anglo-Scottish combination of Scott and Kelly after they combined expertly well in last year’s visit to Devon.

: 9. Richard Wigglesworth, 10. George Ford; 21. Ben Youngs, 22. Freddie Burns

Ford or Burns? It’s probably the selection that’s giving Borthwick the most
